“Everyone on Maple Street has a motive. Only one has a shovel.”
Verdict: Hype Upheld.
Mom’s take: Suburban mysteries live or die on whether the neighbors feel like real people with real petty grievances, and this one nails it. I suspected four different people and was wrong about all of them, which is exactly what I want from a Tuesday afternoon.
Daughter’s take: The HOA satire alone is worth the price of admission. I have never wanted a fictional detective to fail so specifically at a fictional dinner party. Deeply, wickedly funny, and the shovel reveal got an actual gasp out of me.
A wickedly funny suburban mystery where nice fences make bad neighbors. We read the blurb live and the case holds up.
