“She hates the boardwalk. He owns the boardwalk. Someone’s getting a funnel cake.”
Verdict: Hung Jury.
Mom’s take: Lovely atmosphere, genuinely transporting beach setting, and I will read anything with a ferris wheel on the cover. But the central conflict resolves about forty pages too early and then the book doesn’t quite know what to do with itself.
Daughter’s take: I was fully swept up in the vibes and do not care that the plot gets a little loose in the back third. This is a vacation in book form. The banter carries it even when the pacing wobbles.
One summer, one ferris wheel, and a rivalry that keeps ending in kisses neither of them planned on. We couldn’t agree on this one, so it’s on you to break the tie.
