“A duke. A spreadsheet. A scandal involving compound interest.”
Verdict: Hype Upheld.
Mom’s take: I went in ready to roll my eyes at another duke book, and instead I got a hero who actually does math on the page. That never happens. The ledger conceit could have been a gimmick, but it holds up as the engine of the whole plot.
Daughter’s take: I do not care about accounting and yet I could not stop reading. The slow burn is doing everything right: he notices her handwriting before he notices her face, which is unreasonably romantic for a book about a spreadsheet.
